First international workshop on genetics, history & medicine

3rd May 2003, Birmingham, United Kingdom

This workshop was held on May 3rd 2003, in conjunction with the European Society for Human Genetics Congress at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham, UK. It proved a most successful and stimulating meeting and many thanks are due to Wellcome Trust for supporting it.

A report sent to Wellcome Trust give details of the meeting. In addition to three invited speakers, there was an extensive discussion on the Genetics and Medicine Historical Network, with valuable suggestions as to how it might develop.

A poster on the Network was presented as part of the main Congress Programme, which attracted considerable interest; the historical theme was also emphasized in the plenary ESHG award lecture: ‘Preserving the Heritage of Human Genetics’, given by Peter Harper.
